Building Resilience Against Natural Disasters
In collaboration with India Development Foundation (IDF), Sankalp Jyoti works on building disaster-resilient sanitation infrastructure and establishing community seed banks in flood-prone areas of Bihar.
Bihar is one of the most flood-affected states in India. Regular flooding destroys sanitation infrastructure, contaminates water sources, and devastates agricultural crops. This program addresses these challenges through raised-platform toilet construction, disaster-proof sanitation systems, and community seed banks that preserve local crop varieties for replanting after floods. Training communities in disaster preparedness, early warning response, and post-disaster recovery.
- Disaster-resilient sanitation infrastructure
- Raised-platform toilet construction in flood zones
- Community seed bank establishment and management
- Disaster preparedness training for communities
- Post-flood recovery and rehabilitation support
- Collaboration with IDF and local government agencies
Disaster Resilience In Numbers
Key Activities
Resilient Sanitation
Constructing raised-platform, flood-proof toilets using locally available materials. These structures survive annual flooding and maintain community hygiene standards.
Community Seed Banks
Establishing and managing seed banks that store climate-resilient, native crop varieties. After floods, these banks provide seeds to farmers for immediate replanting.
Disaster Preparedness Training
Training communities in early warning systems, emergency evacuation procedures, first aid, and post-disaster recovery techniques to minimize loss of life and property.
